Board index Music Software Logic Pro. I am still new at this and trying to find a good workflow to score it. I started out by just making one session on Logic with everything on it and did a lot of save as in case I needed to go back to previous version.

I started working on each cues by order of importance but later encountered a problem when using a lot of tempo changes with earlier cues in the film, my volume and effects automation was not lock to the SMPTE time code and was all over the place on all the other cues.

Because I did not realise this soon some cues are really hard to fix now because of the automation. So I had to rework them in previous save of the session. Now my workflow is quite messy and I am working inbetween 3 different Logic sessions of the same project, with the cues I could save.

Is there any way to save this? Can I bring some regions with automation of old sessions and gather them into one? I have the same tracks on each session but need some updated regions with the right automation to go in some cues into one session. Thanks a lot for your help! There is no way to change tempos early in the project without messing up everything later on.

You could lock later regions to SMPTE, but this would not lock automation and also, changing the tempo upstream will then move the bar grid underneath the locked regions, making it impossible to print out a readable score for the musicians or do any revisions. The solution is to put each cue in a separate Logic project. Then you assemble the final stereo mixes or stems into a full length bpm master project for screening and approval.

Mojave, Logic X. in any case, you get used to this, it’s kinda like diarrhoea. It’s terrible and gross but as you get older it’s less impressive each time. To copy automation, you first convert it to “region” automation. If you’re working on a film of any decent size with other people doing post production audio, etc..

you will most likely not be asked to provide them a finished movie, but rather you will provide them bounced mixes of each cue, or perhaps stems that they can decide to mix differently if they choose. They will lay those down to the film using whatever filmmaker tools they are using. If you need to see the whole film end to end with all the cues, then as fuzzfilth said, just bounce out mixes from each project and lay them into a global master project.

OSX but also I find it annoying to have to start cue1 at bar1, but cue2 starts at some large bar , etc. I’d rather have each project start at bar 1. Logic could use some improved film tools, DP definitely has the edge in more ways then one on that front, still I prefer writing music in LogicPro. Another option is to use DP to lay out your tempos across all your cues do it with chunks combine all the chunks for the entire film so you have one master tempo list from all the chunks then export that tempo track to LogicPro and work on the film without thinking further about tempo changes..

DP also has some excellent tools for helping you to figure out the best tempos to make hit points line up, etc. DP also does punches and streamers if you need to deliver that. It does quite a lot more for film scoring frankly.. but I just can’t get on with DP’s GUI for when I’m composing I usually just use them for edits, and reloading an alternative is basically like reloading a project.

Cool idea, but its essentially nested projects. Actually works identically as having project saved as folder with different logic projects sharing the same audio pool i’m really hoping for a big update on scoring front.
